Twenty one delegates from Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health visited NHS Sunderland Clinical Commissioning Group this week to learn more about the city’s health care.
Ministers, doctors, pharmacists and nurses spent the morning at Sunderland CCG meeting key leaders involved in the new out of hospital model of care. The delegates also visited Sunderland Community Support Service to learn more about recovery at home and the community equipment service.
The group have travelled to the North East to take part in a two-week collaboration programme with Northumbria University.
Professor Alison Machin, Head of the Department of Nursing, Midwifery and Health at Northumbria University, Newcastle, said: “Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health approached us as they are in the process of developing their community healthcare services and are very interested in exploring the various models of care used within the UK.
“Northumbria University has a proven track record of collaborating with healthcare partners and organisations, including NHS Sunderland CCG, to deliver high-quality programmes.
“Combining Northumbria University’s expertise in designing and delivering international programmes with the shared expertise, in community and family health leadership, of staff from both organisations enhances the learning experience of delegates and leads to the delivery of an outstanding programme.”
David Gallagher, Chief Officer at the CCG, said: “We have been working hard as a partnership in Sunderland to transform out of hospital care to achieve better outcomes for patients and the whole system.
“This visit was a great opportunity to explain some of the innovative work being done here and pass on our learning to clinicians in Thailand.”
